Description:
Bryn Mawr's unique program allows students to work at the interface of the Greek world and the ancient Near East, as well as in the later history of the classical tradition in Rome and modern Europe. Research specialties of the faculty include the archaeology of South Asia, Iran, and Arabia; Aegean prehistory; Greek archaeology, architecture, painting, and mosaics; historiography; field methods, materials analysis, and theory of archaeology. Fieldwork opportunities in Greece, Turkey, and the Near East are available.

Description:
Bryn Mawr's M.A. program combines graduate study in small seminars on its campus, where the faculty offer individual attention to the 5-8 students in each class, with summer study in the Institut d'Etudes francaises d'Avignon, where M.A. candidates join graduate students from top American and European universities in courses taught by distinguished professors from both continents. Field specialties of Bryn Mawr's faculty include the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, 17th century, the Enlightenment, 19th and 20th century literature and civilization, and Francophone North African, West African, sub-Saharan and Caribbean literature. Literary theory is presented in theory-specific and field courses. Many students complete the degree in twelve months of intensive study to prepare themselves for admission to the best Ph.D.-granting programs in the U.S. and Europe.

Description:
The Department of Greek, Latin and Classical Studies offers rigorous training in classical languages as well as the opportunity to explore some of the most dynamic areas of classical studies today. Faculty specialties include Greek lyric poetry and drama, Greco-Roman religion and magic, Roman history and archaeology, Republican and Augustan Latin poetry, late antique and medieval Latin prose, and the history of classical scholarship. Participation in the Graduate Group in Archaeology, Classics and History of Art allows students with interdisciplinary interests to expand their training in multiple directions.

Description:
Bryn Mawr offers an intense concentration on the history and theory of art in Europe and America from late antiquity through contemporary film. Field specialties of the faculty include medieval Italy, Netherlandish and German art, Italian Renaissance art, 17th- century Spanish art, early modern French painting, post-World War II art, and American film. Theoretical specialties include aesthetics, gender theory, film theory, psychoanalytic theory, reception theory, and semiotics. The Center of Visual Culture provides an exciting forum for the latest research in all disciplines in which visualization play a role.

Students may concentrate in any of the broad divisions of mathematics represented among our faculty.
