Description:
Three specializations are offered with the M.A., History Program. The Master of
Arts, History degree program is appropriate for persons interested in pursuing
the study of history for college teaching or for other purposes. Students may
specialize in American or modern European history. The MA History: Secondary
School Teachers concentration is designed for persons with junior or senior high
school teaching credentials and is considered a terminal degree. The MA History:
International Relations concentration is of particular interest to those in
professional military careers, those wishing to supplement their professional
training in certain civil service careers, and those desiring an
interdisciplinary background for teaching.

Master of Arts and Master of Sciences degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies are
offered under the direction of the Director of the Graduate School. This unique
degree program is offered to accommodate students whose interests and needs are
multidisciplinary. Each program is a specially designed course of study,
involving two or more disciplines, that relates to a coherent theme.

There are four main patterns leading to the M.A. in English: the Literature
Program, focusing on the literature of Britain and the United States; a
concentration in the Teaching of Writing for those who want to develop a
specialist's knowledge of the principles of teaching and evaluating writing
skills, a concentration in the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other
Languages, and in Rhetoric and the Teaching of Writing.
