The Master of Science in Biology program is designed to provide a
comprehensive view of the life sciences and their relations to human
affairs, and to give fundamental training for graduate and professional
work. Emphasis is placed upon new developments in the field and the
importance of problem solving and the application of knowledge. An
understanding and an appreciation for the role of science in the modern
world is a goal of the department. Internships and independent studies are
encouraged to expand the curriculum available to thestudents.

Description:
Most students complete the MFA degree in 3 years (a few in 2 years), taking
both workshop and seminar courses and completing a creative thesis in one of
four genres: fiction, poetry, scriptwriting, or creative nonfiction.
Students also gain editing, teaching, and arts programming experience
working with the program's national journals; teaching classes in
composition, literature, and creative writing; and assisting with the
program's visiting writers series.
Accreditation Description:
The English, Speech and Journalism department at Georgia College & State
University (GCSU) is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools (SACS). The MFA Program also adheres to guidelines established by
the Association of Writers and Writing Prgrams (AWP). GCSU is also one of
only 24 members of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC).

Description:
The professional certification program offered in Early Childhood Education
at Georgia College and State University at the P-5 certificate level is
intended for persons already possessing an undergraduate degree in
education. The advanced level of certification is associated with the
completion of the Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education.
This program extends and expands the study of the development of children in
pre-kindergarten through grade five at an advanced level as outlined in the
conceptual framework. Within the context of the masters degree program,
candidates are exposed to a wide variety of information related to education
and work with young children with particular emphasis on serving as mentors
for beginning teachers,advocating for young children in the larger
professional community, and conducting action researchin classrooms.
