The Master of Arts in Education is an innovative program that provides a
supportive environment for professional educators, links theory and
practice, and integrates inquiry and technology into the curriculum.
Students can choose to enroll in classes on campus or off campus in a
learning community. The Master of Arts in Teaching offers a first teaching
license at the graduate level. The program is clinically-based and students
experience field placements in urban public schools in conjunction with
courses as they progress toward full-time student teaching. The Doctorate in
Education features a thematic, theory-to-practice curriculum, a learning
community approach, a strong technology orientation, and a focus on
participants as teachers-researchers-scholars-leaders.

Description:
Hamline's interdisciplinary approach extends students' intellectual
resources and range, and stimulates students to discover connections between
their learning and their personal and professional lives. Hamline's liberal
studies approach allows students to read from a writer's perspective and
discover how a piece of writing works. The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies
offers students the opportunity to range freely among academic, artistic,
spiritual and professional issues and ideas. The Master of Fine Arts in
Writing encourages students to write within, across and between genres, and
join a community of writers and scholars in an intensive, book-driven
program. In January, 2007, we introduced the MFA in Writing for Children and
Young Adults, a low-residency program in which students and faculty meet on
campus twice a year, each time for eleven days. The model accommodates
working adults and those who do not wish to or cannot relocate to complete
their graduate education.
