Description:
The Doctor of Ministry is offered through a cooperative agreement with San
Francisco Theological Seminary. While there is a depth of mystery and
humility in faith, San Francisco Theological Seminary's Doctor of Ministry
program at Marylhurst University is designed to give students’ faith a
practical application, allowing it to achieve its full meaning as a force
for positive change. Students from all major traditions – Christianity,
Judaism, Buddhism or Islam – will learn to apply theology to a concrete
pastoral discipline. Doctor of Ministry graduates leave with greater career
potential and a deeper appreciation for the many connections among faith,
community and personal goals. In this program, students: • Gain a greater
understanding of sacred literature; • Learn about modern pastoral issues; •
Develop skills for a career in educational leadership; and • Expand
theological knowledge. LASTING RELATIONSHIPS The convergence of clergy and
lay pastors from many faiths provides students with opportunities for
networking and support. While working on the Doctor of Ministry degree,
students strike up relationships with colleagues that often lead to new
career paths, new insights into challenging spiritual, political and ethical
issues, and friendships that last for decades. SAN FRANCISCO THEOLOGICAL
SEMINARY The Doctor of Ministry is granted by this esteemed theological
institution. Located in San Anselmo, California, San Francisco Theological
Seminary has been providing continuing education and advanced degrees for
clergy and pastoral professionals for more than 100 years. DEDICATED FACULTY
Both San Francisco Theological Seminary and Marylhurst University offer
students a team of skilled theologians, each with a doctoral degree and
years of experience in ministry, education or public service.

Art therapy is about human health and recovery. At Marylhurst, art
experiences are integrated with most of the core classes. Students use
creative work to understand theories of art therapy, clients and therapeutic
relationships. While this artistic focus may be different from the student’s
prior experience, it does lead to the creation of authentic and
aesthetically satisfying work. REGISTERED ART THERAPISTS Graduates of
Marylhurst’s AATA-approved master's program may apply for the professional
credential of registered art therapist (ATR) following completion of 1,000
hours of supervised post-master's art therapy experience. (Degree programs
without AATA approval require additional hours.) STATE LICENSING The MA in
Art Therapy Counseling Program meets the educational requirements of
Oregon's state licensing board for professional counselors and therapists,
the National Board for Certified Counselors and the American Art Therapy
Association's credentialing board. Check with your own state regarding its
licensing requirements for professional counselors. CAREER PATHS Graduates
of the Marylhurst program are working in outpatient counseling clinics,
schools and hospitals – both psychiatric and medical, day treatment and
residential treatment programs. They serve as primary and adjunctive
therapists. In most cases, they are part of a treatment team working
collaboratively with other clinicians. The Master of Arts in Art Therapy
Counseling curriculum meets the educational requirements for licensure as a
professional counselor (LPC) in Oregon. Graduates are eligible to become
qualified mental health professionals (QMHP) in Oregon. They are also
eligible to apply to become nationally board certified counselors.

Description:
The Marylhurst MAT Program Commitment to Principles of Social Justice The
Marylhurst master's in teaching degree program is committed to developing
educators who have the skills to make a positive impact on the most pressing
educational issue facing our state – the glaring gap in children's
achievement levels caused by complex social, economic and historical
factors. Elementary & Secondary Cohorts While candidates gain specific
skills in their area of specialization, they learn how the application of
theory applies in all classroom environments. Field Experience Field
experience in a classroom begins the first term and continues for three more
terms. This provides a 12-month perspective of how teachers prepare for the
start of school in the fall and maintain educational momentum throughout the
school year. Student Teaching By providing guidance in the classroom and in
the school community, Marylhurst's Clinical Faculty facilitate a student
teaching experience that prepares each candidate for their first year of
teaching. Early Entry into the Profession Candidates finish their degree and
licensure requirements with the completion of student teaching prior to the
end of March. This provides the opportunity to develop a work history during
spring term through substitute teaching assignments, which can help secure
employment for the next school year. Mentor Support During the First Year of
Teaching Marylhurst's mentors provide meaningful professional development
after graduation to ensure that the first year of teaching is a successful
and rewarding experience. Reading Emphasis The master's in teaching degree
program also prepares candidates with advanced skills in reading instruction
and the ability to work successfully with students whose first language is
not English.
