The McDaniel College Curriculum and Instruction program engages teachers and
staff developers in designing, implementing, and evaluating curricula.
Current theories, research, and technology are applied to the improvement of
the learning process at all levels from Pre-K through college. A critical
program objective is to assist teachers in making practical applications of
recent educational research in their actual classroom practice. Candidates
may select focus areas in *Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction,
Adaptations for Special Needs, *Computer Applications in the Instructional
Process, *Teaching Strategies for Students with Limited English Proficiency,
or in the content areas. *Some courses could count for Maryland course count
certification in these areas. Program Features * Couples a solid foundation
in the key issues of curricular development with flexible requirements that
enable students to pursue individual interests. * May be completed at
several off-campus locations, including locations in Prince George's County,
and Southern Maryland. Note that special cohort groups are frequently formed
in cooperation with counties such as Anne Arundel, Cecil, Harford, Howard

Since its inception in 1967 as a joint effort between McDaniel College and
the Maryland School for the Deaf, McDaniel College's Master of Science
program in Deaf Education has built on its mission to prepare outstanding
teachers of deaf students. Philosophically, the program views deaf students
from a bilingual perspective. For graduates, that translates into a genuine
acceptance of and respect for the language and culture of deaf people, as
well as a driving commitment to provide students with experiences that
encourage literacy development and academic achievement. Come connect with
an energetic community of individuals pursuing teaching credentials for deaf
students at elementary or secondary levels, or become a specialist to guide
deaf students whose first language is ASL or to aide deaf and hearing
students learning ASL as a second language. Program Features: * Provides a
bilingual experience in a sizable and diverse community that remains small
enough to allow close learning relationships. * Requires and reinforces ASL
fluency: All classes are taught in ASL. * Balances full-time faculty with

This Human Services Management in Special Education program is designed to
prepare middle- to upper-level managers for community-based programs in
special education. Students also have the option of a Special Education
Teaching Track. Graduate students in the program provide direct services and
support for individuals with developmental disabilities who live in the
surrounding community. The program accepts full-time graduate students who
are interested in full-time employment as counselors/graduate students with
Target Community and Educational Services, Inc., while they are completing
requirements for the M.S. degree. Target is a nonprofit agency affiliated
with McDaniel College that provides services to adults with developmental
disabilities through its community living, vocational, and recreational
