Description:
The Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Science is committed to
fostering a creative and integrated approach to cutting-edge scientific
problems.
Upon completion of this program the student will have a broad foundation
in modern biomedical science and specialized research training in current
disciplines. During the first year, students take a core curriculum which
exposes them to a breadth of research opportunities and offer training in
diverse laboratory techniques. These opportunities are provided through
laboratory rotations. These rotations are short-term laboratory experiences
with an emphasis on experimental design and integration into a research
team. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to
sample from the variety of faculty research programs and techniques
available across participating departments.

Description:
This program provides for overlapping course work to be performed while
simultaneously working toward both an undergraduate degree in Biomedical
Engineering and a Ph.D. in one of the basic science programs of the Medical
College of Wisconsin (MCW). It is carried out in affiliation with MSOE and
the Medical College of Wisconsin Graduate Division. The combined program
requires both of the presently authorized programs at both institutions to
be completed in full. The significance of the program is that it encourages
individuals with backgrounds in the physical sciences to pursue an academic
career in one of the basic science areas of the biomedical community.
