Description:
The educational programs of the Sloan-Kettering Institute, like its research
programs, are dedicated broadly toward advancement of our understanding of
the biology and management of cancer. Training is offered under the guidance
of the Institute's scientific staff, many of whom hold joint appointments on
the Faculty of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Cornell University.
Educational opportunities at several levels are offered at the Institute.
These include the Graduate (Ph.D.) Program in biomedical sciences conducted
with Cornell University, the Medical Scientist Training Program (M.D./Ph.D.)
conducted as a tri-institutional program at Sloan-Kettering, Cornell
University, and The Rockefeller University, and a broad range of
postdoctoral training opportunities.

Description:
The School of Cytotechnology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is a
post-baccalaureate one-year training program in one of the top cancer
centers in the country. Established in 1961, the school is accredited by the
Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and operates
within the structure of the cytology laboratory, providing students with a
wide range of technical and cytodiagnostic skills. Students process and
microscopically evaluate specimens using state of the art technology such as
ThinPrep® and the Thin Prep® Imaging System. Upon successful completion of
the program, students demonstrating competence in both theoretical and
practical aspects of the course are awarded a Certificate in Cytotechnology.
Graduates are eligible to take the Board of Registry Examination, a national
certifying examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology
(ASCP) and qualified for licensure in New York State.
