Description:
The Master of Arts in Religious Studies joins the academic study of
comparative religions with interreligious dialogue, contemplative practice
and personal investigation. Students develop literacy in the living practice
traditions of a variety of world religions, with special emphasis on
integrating the mystical contemplative dimension with the other aspects of
the traditions as well as on learning interreligious dialogue skills for
communicating across religious differences in an environment of global
pluralism. Faculty members are both academically and spiritually trained in
the teachings and practices of their respective traditions. This MA includes
training in either Sanskrit or Tibetan through two years (16 credits) of
course work or more.

Description:
In preparation for a hybrid profession that encompasses the visual arts, the
social sciences and solid psychotherapeutic skills, the Art Therapy
concentration of the MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology prepares
graduates for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential. Naropa's
innovative approach to art therapy integrates these areas within a
transpersonal framework. Grounded in a foundation of contemplative training,
students pursue didactic and experiential coursework in art therapy and
transpersonal psychology. Program graduates are prepared for work as
professional members of multidisciplinary teams within agencies and in
private practice.

Description:
The Body Psychotherapy concentration of the MA in Somatic Psychology draws
upon the diverse field of body psychotherapy and trains students to
integrate bodywork and movement education principles with counseling and
psychotherapy skills. The program teaches both the classic energy model of
Body Psychotherapy, and the contemporary models of sensorimotor tracking,
the Moving Cycle, conscious movement and relational techniques. Both

Description:
The MA in Contemplative Education is a low-residency, professional
development degree for practicing teachers and others interested in a
nonsectarian, contemplative approach to teaching and learning. This two-year
program joins the wisdom and skillful means of Eastern meditative traditions
with Western holistic educational methods and insights. Practicing teachers
from all levels of instruction (pre-k through higher education) are welcome.
The program schedule consists of online coursework during two school years,
two one-month summer sessions and a concluding summer conference.

Description:
Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman inaugurated Naropa University's Department
of Writing and Poetics in 1974 as the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied
Poetics. The department offers a low-residency Master of Fine Arts in
Creative Writing. Courses are taken online during the regular academic year,
and eight weeks of the Summer Writing Program (spread out over two or three
summers) are completed at Naropa's University's Boulder campus. The
curriculum balances online writing workshops and literature seminars. This
reflects the department's conviction that creative writing, reading and
critical analysis must be involved in a writer's growth.

Approved by the American Dance Therapy Association since 1987, the
Dance/Movement Therapy (D/MT) concentration of the MA Somatic Counseling
Psychology focuses on the power of the creative experience, coupled with the
healing properties of conscious movement sequencing. The D/MT emphasis
trains students in classical as well as innovative forms of dance/movement
therapy, specializing in the Moving Cycle, Authentic Movement and the
interface of D/MT with contemporary models of sensorimotor tracking,
conscious movement, relational techniques and contemplative dance forms.

The Master of Arts in Environmental Leadership program offers an integrated
interdisciplinary curriculum, which explores living systems theory, deep
ecology, ecopsychology, diverse leadership models and contemplative
practice. The program's multilayered approach results in a deepened learning

The Master of Divinity degree prepares students for professional work in the
fields of pastoral care, chaplaincy, community development and dharma
teaching. This program is firmly grounded in Buddhist philosophy and
