Description:
The MA program is designed for educators who hold teacher certification and
have teaching experience. Graduate candidates may seek initial P-3 teacher
certification through the traditional or alternate route. These candidates
may decide to pursue the MAT. The MAT in Early Childhood/Special Education
is a new interdisciplinary degree. The P-3 Alternate Route Program is
designed for candidates working in child care centers that are eligible for
an Alternate Route program.

Description:
This program includes a 30 credit certification sequence and an additional
six credits to complete the MAT. Students who successfully complete this
program will be eligible for the New Jersey Preschool through Grade 3
Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing endorsement.

Description:
The MA in Urban Education with a specialization in Educational
Administration and Supervision is designed for teachers who desire to become
principals or supervisors. A principals certificate requires this master's
degree, a passing grade on the Educational Leadership Exam, and any
additional requirements established by the NJ State Education Department.
The NJ LEAD Institute is a new program structure offering a fast-track 30
credit program leading to certification as a principal and supervisor for
qualified candidates who possess a Master's degree and have five years of
teaching experience.

Description:
The MA in Educational Technology is designed to meet the needs of classroom
teachers who want to apply technology to the learning process and
individuals wishing to develop leadership skills as site-based technology
coordinators. It is intended to develop a broad range of technological
expertise, while at the same time focusing clearly on the new way that
technology is changing how students and educators create and understand
knowledge. The School Library Media certifications focus on the improvement
of the learning process through the evaluation, selection, organization and
utilization of print and non-print resources and the technology related to
their use. The Career Education Specialist certificate is designed for
educators who place and supervise vocational-technical students. The
Distance Learning Specialist Certificate builds knowledge, skills and
leadership in distance/online education and training. The Assistive
Technology Certificate has a cross-disability perspective. These programs
may be completed online.

This MAT is designed for individuals who have completed a baccalaureate
degree in the arts or sciences. Students who complete the certification part
of this program will be eligible for an elementary (K-5) Certificate of
Eligibility with Advanced Standing on a New Jersey Instructional License or,
in the dual certification program, for a Certificate of Eligibility with
Advanced Standing in K-5 Elementary with a 5-8 subject endorsement. Middle
School subject areas include Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics, Science,
Social Studies and Spanish.

Description:
The major aim of graduate preparation in Special Education at New Jersey
City University is to prepare qualified and competent educators capable of
meeting the instructional needs of children with physical, cognitive,
behavioral and specific learning disabilities. The MA is a 42 credit degree
for students holding a New Jersey Department of Education "Teacher of the
Handicapped" or "Teacher of Students with Disabilities" certification. The
MAT is a 42 credit degree which includes 27 credits required for Teacher of
Students with Disabilities Certification. The Learning Disabilities Teacher
Consultant Certification Program is for holders of an MA in Special
Education (or in an allied field), with three years of successful teaching
experience under a standard teaching certificate.

The Department of Multicultural Education prepares teachers for careers in
bilingual, multicultural settings. The Masters degree and certification
program in ESL may be taken either by students holding another teaching
certification or by teachers not already holding a certification. The degree
and certification program in bilingual/bicultural education may only be
taken by students holding another New Jersey teaching certification.
