Description:
Students pursuing the M.A. in English include secondary school teachers who wish
to improve their credentials, as well as students seeking a stepping stone to
teaching at the junior or community college level or to Ph.D. graduate study.
Recent graduates have been admitted to Ph.D. programs at Ball State,
Carnegie-Mellon, Catholic, George Washington, Marquette and Purdue universities
and have secured teaching positions in both community colleges and universities
in the Middle Atlantic region and beyond. Each year six teaching assistantships
are awarded ($8250 per year plus tuition waiver). Assistantships are not offered
to international students in their first semester at SSU.

Description:
The History program aims to empower students to enrich their own lives and the
life of their community through a fuller understanding of the past. The faculty
believes that by giving students the tools necessary to write and teach history,
we can build a community that embraces diversity. The rich resources of the
local community and the Nabb Research Center provide tools for solid training.
Students receive rigorous training in conducting research, constructing strong
and persuasive arguments, and writing clearly and compellingly.
