The MNPL program is proud that more than 86 percent of its graduates are now
nonprofit or philanthropic executives in the Pacific Northwest. Others have
moved into new leadership roles on boards while continuing employment in
business, government or the professions. The average graduate has seen a 21
percent increase in salary within one year of graduation. The MNPL requires 45
credits through 13 courses offered in 16 months. A class of 25 to 30 students is
admitted each year and this cohort proceeds through the program together. The
final course allows each student to pursue in-depth research on a subject of
personal interest. Upon acceptance into the program, students are asked to
collect assessments from their employers on their current capabilities in the
core competencies that provide the basis for the program's curriculum. The
feedback is used to guide each student during the program.

The MSAL curriculum consists of 3-credit courses divided into the key areas of
the domain – exploring sport as a discipline (history, sociology, science, law);
fostering administrative skills (finance, marketing, media, and operations);
nurturing leadership qualities (planning programs, supervising subordinates,
behaving ethically, and motivating staff). Students take 12 courses over a
2-year period offered as 2 fall courses, 2 winter courses, 1 spring course, and
1 summer course. Students take 6-credits of internship any time during the
program. The final element of the program is the 3-credit Colloquium in which
students submit a manuscript and deliver an oral presentation of a research
project in time for December or June graduation. The pedagogy for the 45-credit
degree is learner-centered, with an emphasis on collaborative learning in small

Description:
The Existential-Phenomenological Therapeutic Psychology Program looks at how
people live their lives and create meaning out of their experiences. Drawing
upon the insights of a number of disciplines and by laying the foundations for a
therapeutic attitude, the program prepares students to enter the helping
professions and/or pursue doctoral studies. The program was founded in 1980 and
has a strong reputation established in the community. It is generally completed
as a two-year full-time course of study. The program offers a broad foundation
in philosophy/psychology, psychopathology and therapeutic motivations, attitudes
and presence. The program entails the study of texts as well as personal
reflection, with an emphasis on class discussion. We believe that learning
occurs from each other as well as from faculty and one's self. To facilitate
this exchange, we accept into the program approximately 20 students once a year.
During the first year the classes are scheduled in the late afternoon and early
evening, allowing students to be employed while pursuing this area of study. A
full-time study involves three classes per quarter. The second year consists of
a practicum-internship experience that includes supervision at the particular
site as well as small group supervision within the program. The practicum
grounds academic knowledge and reflection in practical experience. In addition,
the second year student takes one elective course per quarter and completes an
integration paper.
