According to a recent external evaluation team, WED has been recognized as "among the top ten in the nation." Offering an array of innovative and flexible undergraduate and graduate programs, the Department has more than 19,000 alumni. Description:
The Department has five well qualified faculty members and twelve staff members primarily engaged in research. The Department manages about $1,000,000 in external research funding annually. The research focuses on overcoming technical problems relating to the production and utilization of coal from the surrounding coal basin, such as sulfur content of typical Illinois coals, subsidence of undermined lands, utilization of coal combustion by-products such as fly ash, bottom ash, scrubber sludge, etc. The research activities of the faculty ensure that students are taught current, state-of-the-art mining engineering, science, and design.

The program consists of courses on program evaluation, measurement, data analysis, and research design, psychology theory and content courses, as well as concurrent applied research consulting experience in our consulting firm, Applied Research Consultants. Students specialize in an area of psychological theory and research.

 

Accreditation Description:
Although there are no accreditation requirements for Applied Psychology, the Psychology Department at SIUC has two long-standing APA accredited programs in Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology. The Applied Psychology program both benefits and is benefited from these accredited programs.

Description:
The Department of Mathematics offers graduate degree programs leading to the Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in mathematics and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mathematics. Students in the master's program can choose from a rich variety of courses in both pure and applied mathematics and statistics. Each master's degree candidate works closely with a professor in writing a research paper or thesis in an area of interest to the student. A double major at the master's level between mathematics and a related discipline is also an option. At the doctoral level, a student may specialize in any one of a large number of fields such as algebra, applied mathematics, combinatorics, differential equations, geometry, numerical analysis, probability, or statistics. Interdisciplinary programs are also available.
