Description:
Our programs are designed to produce scholars – creative, energetic, articulate,
and literate scholars. We endeavor to produce anthropologists whose research is
sufficiently innovative to attract the notice of their peers, who will seek and
receive research funding, and who will apply their training to the constructive
development of the human groups with whom they work. It is our aim to train
students in specialized skills based upon the broad understanding of
anthropology acquired before entering our programs.

The MA program in medical anthropology is a training program in applied
anthropology for students seeking involvement in health care agencies,

globalization and international development).

Description:
The Department of Biological Sciences offers graduate programs leading to the
M.S.,M,A., or Ph.D. degrees, but concentration is on the doctoral program. Major
areas of emphasis are molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, and
biochemistry. Furthermore, it is the aim of the the dept to prepare students for
careers in teaching and research. In 2002, the department moved into the Dedman
Life Sciences building, a state-of-the-art research facility. New equipment
includes a confocal microscrope, a flow cytometer, electron spin resonance
instrumentation, and a computer workstation for protein modeling.

Description:
The graduate program trains professional economists for varied careers in
college and university teaching, in government service, in business and
nonprofit organizations, in research institutions, and in consulting firms. It
blends economic theory and policy with quantitative and statistical techniques
to equip students with a sound understanding of economic analysis. In addition

Description:
The Department of Geological Sciences offers M.S. and Ph.D. programs requiring a
research thesis with concentrations in geophysics, igneous and metamorphic
petrology, isotope geology, aqueous geochemistry, sedimentology, tectonics, and
vertebrate paleontology, or a combination of these areas. In addition, the
Department offers an M.S. in applied geophysics, which is a program that does
not require a thesis. Students interested in careers in the environmental field
are encouraged to consider programs in some combination of aqueous geochemistry,
isotope geology, or sedimentology.

Description:
The William P. Clements Department of History at Southern Methodist University,
in conjunction with the Clements Center for Southwest Studies, offers a new and
innovative Ph.D. program. The course of study explores American historical
experiences in global and comparative perspectives, with special opportunities
to do advanced-level work on the American Southwest and Mexico. The program is
built around three fields: a major field in American history, a second in the
history of the Southwest and Mexico, and a third in Global and Comparative
History.

Description:
The Department of Psychology at SMU offers a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a
M.A. in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. All programs are full time. The Master's
program is a 48 unit program while the Ph.D. program consists of 70 required
units. The M.A. in Clinical/Counseling Psychology is a terminal M.A. program
that includes coursework consistent with certification for a Licensed
Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. The goal of this program is
to train students in the delivery of psychological services. The emphasis of our
Ph.D. program is on the development of conceptual and clinical research skills
and on training in empirically-validated clinical skills. The goal of the
program is to train professionals who will be employed in all types of settings
where empirically-validated clinical methods are used, and/or where research is
conducted.
