Description:
This is an interdisciplinary degree supported by all basic science departments in the Health Sciences Center. The TTUHSC general academic campus administers a complimentary track in General Science/Agricultural Biotechnology. The Biomedical Track is a 21-month curriculum consisting of two terms (nine months) of coursework and 12 months of full time laboratory research. It is typically a non-thesis degree with an optional thesis at the end of the second year by arrangement with the advisor. The research component may be completed either at the HSC campus or at a biotechnology industry laboratory.

Description:
The department offers programs leading to the Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology and Biochemistry. Student stipends are provided for the duration of study and are nationally competitive. Tuition scholarships are also available. Strong emphasis on research with no teaching requirements.

Description:
If you are interested in a career in academic medicine as a physician scientist, this program may be ideal for you. It will prepare you to become a medical practitioner and faculty member at a university medical center where you will teach medical and graduate students, and, as a scientist, will be involved with biomedical research. After completion of the program, you will receive both the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees.

If your undergraduate performance has been outstanding, you may qualify for the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). This program provides financial support in the form of a Research Assistantship from the first year of enrollment through the completion of the Ph.D., health insurance, and tuition scholarships for enrollment in the School of Medicine and Graduate School of BiomedicalSciences.

Description:
The faculty of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology offers broad based programs leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Medical Microbiology. The Master's degree ordinarily requires two years to complete. The student takes 30 hours of course work, develops a research project under the supervision of a faculty advisor, and writes a thesis based on the outcome of the research.

The program of study for the Ph.D. degree is determined by the student's advisor and appointed advisory committee. After completion of the course work, the student takes a qualifying examination. A Ph.D. dissertation, based on the results of original research, is written and defended by the student. Completion of a Master's degree is not a prerequisite for entrance into the doctoral program. A minimum of three years of graduate study beyond the Bachelor's degree is required for the Ph.D. degree.

Description:
The Department of Pharmacology is part of the School of Medicine at Texas Tech UniversityHealth Science Center. We teach both medical and graduates students within the School. In addition, many of the faculty provide Continuing Medical Education lectures for a variety of health professionals including many rural pharmacists. The Department's faculty research efforts fall into two general areas of specialization: Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Neuropharmacology. There are currently 14 faculty in the department who maintain active laboratories.
