The Master of Science in Agricultural Education degree program offered at a
distance is designed specifically to meet the needs of today’s working
professional. The program is ideally suited for teachers, employees of state
and federal agencies, extension agents, and employees of private businesses
who need to expand their knowledge and skills to the master's degree level.
This degree program offers two options: thesis or non-thesis and mirrors the
on-campus degree program. Both options require a minimum of 36 semester
hours of graduate coursework. A maximum of 12 hours of coursework from
another institution may be evaluated for transfer to Texas Tech University.
An oral exam and a research thesis for the thesis option or an oral exam and
for the non-thesis option are due during the graduating semester.

The Master of Agriculture degree program at a distance is designed to
prepare students and professionals as leaders, managers, and executives in
the agricultural sciences and natural resources areas. The program is
designed specifically to meet the needs of today's working professional.
This non-thesis degree program requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of
graduate coursework. Because the program is multidisciplinary, students are
able to design a program that will meet their unique career objectives.
Students select an area of emphasis (a minimum of 18 semester credit hours)
in either Agricultural Education, Agricultural Education with Principal
Professional Certification Preparation, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Resource
Management.

study plant genetics, breeding, biotechnology, molecular biology,
physiology, biochemistry, weed control, and crop management, as well as how

Description:
The Master of Science in Horticulture degree program at a distance is
designed specifically to meet the needs of today's working professionals.
Horticulture is the art and science of cultivating edible (fruits, nuts, and
vegetables) and ornamental plants (annual and perennial flowers and woody
plants). Today's horticulture students focus on the challenges and practices
of genetics and breeding, propagation, biotechnology, production,
management, handling and storage, marketing, and utilization of ornamental
plants in both the interior and exterior landscape. This nonthesis degree
program requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of graduate coursework and
is considered a terminal degree. A maximum of six hours of coursework from
another institution may be evaluated for transfer to Texas Tech University.
Students must take the last six semester credit hours from Texas Tech
University. An oral exam is required during the graduating semester.

Description:
This innovative degree combines the strengths of Texas A&M and Texas Tech
Universities, and requires 64 hours of graduate study over four calendar
years. Delivery strategies include periodic face-to-face meetings, Internet
learning tools (including WebCT), and regular meetings using interactive
videoconferencing. In order to be considered for admission to a cohort,
students must have a master’s degree and verbal and quantitative GRE scores
taken within five years of the beginning of enrollment. This modern
curricular design and delivery system provides academic quality and
educational access for mid-career professionals in agricultural education.
