Description:
Our graduate program currently enrolls dozens of active students working
under the supervision of fourteen professors and most of our graduate
students are involved in funded research. We fund nearly all our graduate
students with teaching and research assistantships and provide excellent
opportunities for hands-on research in the laboratory and in the field. For
example, our graduate students have instrumented bridges, gone to Alaska to
test new drilling techniques for groundwater monitoring, designed and built
steel frames, and travel throughout New England sampling local water
supplies to test for radon in drinking water.
Degree(s):
M.S. - Civil Engineering;
Ph.D. - Civil Engineering
Research Areas:
Environmental Civil Engineering;Water Resources;Structural Civil
Engineering;Civil Engineering Materials;Geotechnical Civil Engineering

Description:
The Department of Family Studies offers two programs of study leading to a
master of science degree in family studies - the Core Areas of Study Program
and the Marriage and Family Therapy Program. The Core Areas of Study
Program, which offers both thesis and comprehensive exam options, has three
foci: child development, child advocacy and family policy; and adolescent
development. These foci are designed to develop general competence in
understanding and applying theory and research regarding child, adolescent,
and family issues. The MFT Program is a two-year, clinical program
accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family
Therapy Education. The MFT program provides theoretical and clinical
foundation that qualifies graduates to work as marriage and family
therapists in a variety of mental health, social service, and medical
settings. Clinical training for the MFT Program is provided at the UNH
Marriage and Family Therapy Center and through community partners.
Accreditation Description:
The Marriage and Family Therapy Program is fully accredited by the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Degree(s):
M.S.-Family Studies;M.S.-Family Studies (Marriage and Family Therapy Option)
Research Areas:
The goal of both programs is to provide students with an understanding of
theory and methods relevant to child and family studies and to prepare them
to work with families in therapeutic, educational, and other community and
corporate settings.
