The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature (F.L.L.) offers programs leading to the M.A. and the Ph.D. degrees in French, the M.A. in German Studies, and the M.A. in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies. The faculty is a dynamic group of scholars of national and international reputation whose commitment to research and teaching is reflected in the innovative quality of the department's graduate programs. The graduate curricula provide extensive training in national and diaspora literature and cultures, literary history and interpretation, critical andcultural theory, and language pedagogy. Both the M.A. and the Ph.D. programs encourage students to pursue individual research in customized fields of studies, taking advantage of the multiple opportunities for interdisciplinary work.
