Description:
The graduate program in the department of English at UNC at Chapel Hill
reflects the exciting debates and changes in the study of English in the
profession at large. Traditionally, that study emphasizes extensive coverage
of the recognized traditions of British and American literature; imparting
to its students a knowledge of the generalhistory of such traditions has
always been one of our department's strengths. Increasingly, the study of
English also includes a concentrated re-attention to works that fall into
other categories: our department is also committed to this charge. Its
faculty has a national presence in such fields as African-American and
Southern Literature.
