Description:
Graduate study in Communication Studies at the University of Rhode Island is
based on an interdisciplinary philosophy, in a master of arts degree program
designed to enhance career options or foster advancement to a doctoral
degree program. Students complete 30 semester credits in a thesis or
non-thesis option, with 18 credits in generalist communication courses, and
at least another 12 credits in an area of specialization, guided by our
internationally acclaimed faculty.

The University of Rhode Island began its Non-Traditional Doctor of Pharmacy
Degree Program in Fall, 1997. The program has been redesigned in a part-time
format so that pharmacists can complete their didactic course requirements
over four semesters in two academic years, with subsequent completion of
clinical clerkships.

Description:
The University of Rhode Island offers an innovative curriculum for the
Masters of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. This program is
designed to immerse students in a specialized area of human development,
while providing a strong foundation in research, policy and practical
knowledge of the field. Graduates from this program are prepared for
leadership positions in human service and education administration, research
and policy organizations, and for advanced academic work. A minimum of 41
credits of approved graduate courses are required including a developmental
seminar, a sequence in policy, research and statistics, and a professional
seminar. In addition, students will select a minimum of 9 credits in a
specialization, such as child development, adolescent development, adult
development, gerontology, public policy and administration, family studies,
or family financial counseling/education. Students complete a portfolio and
a master’s thesis. Students have the option of including up to 6 credits of
a policy, administrative or research internship as part of the program of
study. Electives can be selected from a broad list of departmental courses
as well as courses identified from other related fields. Students have the
opportunity to work with a diverse faculty, conduct independent studies,
gain valuable real-life experience through internship placements, and
conduct original research while completing a master’s thesis.
