Description:
Education and certification for interpreters and translators have always been more difficult to obtain in the United States than in Europe. Now UC Berkeley Extension is offering a comprehensive program that provides potential interpreters and translators with a solid background and also prepares them to enter such specialties as legal, medical, or commercial interpretation or translation. The program is limited to a total of 6o students per term, 30 in interpretation and 30 in translation. our curriculum planners developed this program in close collaboration with representatives from UC Berkeley's International and Area Studies Program, as well as with the Northern California Translators' Association, the California judicial Council, Bay Area Court Interpreters, and directors of interpreter services at Bay Area hospitals.
