Volatile. Challenging. Exciting. Lucrative. The fast-paced field of real estate
and construction management is without a doubt one of the most competitive in
the business world. Leadership skills, management training and business acumen
are in demand, yet most real estate professionals do not have a graduate degree
specific to their industry. The Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and
Construction Management at the Daniels College of Business, University of
Denver, is the only graduate program of its kind that brings these two
specialties together in a business college – integrating disciplines such as
finance, marketing and accounting into your degree. This unique program will
give you a solid foundation in business fundamentals and how they relate to real
estate and construction. The carefully considered programmatic structure
reflects the way the real estate and construction management industries work—as
twin functions within the larger context of business. Other graduate business
programs teach real estate as a business discipline but refer you to engineering
and architecture schools to learn about construction management. In the real
estate and construction management industries, business expertise puts you in
the decision maker’s seat. As a developer, you need not be a construction
expert, but you do need to know how projects are built so you can make informed
business decisions. By the same token, as a real estate entrepreneur,
understanding real estate finance, marketing, investments, law, accounting,
business and construction issues will help you be more productive. Students
choose from three tracks: 1) construction management 2) real estate or 3) real
estate and construction management. Students in the 50 credit hour program study
values-based leadership and ethical decision making along with rigorous
foundational courses focusing on the business of real estate and construction
management.

Description:
At the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, hands-on
experiential learning is as important as business fundamentals. That’s why
Master of Science in Finance students on the investment track actually manage
part of the university’s endowment fund, and, in most quarters, outperform the
S&P 500. Our dynamic and rigorous curriculum is just one reason that financial
heavy hitters such as Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and Oppenheimer Funds hire
Daniels graduates – and why The Wall Street Journal ranked Daniels No. 7 in the
Financial Services Industry in 2006. Here, you’ll gain the skills and
credentials that open doors – to investment banks, securities traders and
portfolio managers on Wall Street and beyond. While the trend among business
schools may be to start you off with a set of templates and formulas and ask you
to immediately begin to solve cases, at Daniels you’ll first master the
fundamentals—theories, concepts and practices—and then apply them to problems,
cases and scenarios. This dynamic approach reflects the reality of the finance
profession, challenging students to think, not memorize. You come away with the
comprehensive understanding you need to unravel complexity and solve problems.
The MS Finance degree builds on the rigorous Daniels foundation of technical
skills and on The Daniels Compass – an innovative curriculum-within-a-curriculum
that integrates corporate social responsibility, leadership and sustainable
development with business knowledge. The Master of Finance degree requires 62
credit hours. Since Daniels is on a quarter system, you can complete your degree
in as little as 15 months. Students have the option of attending full- or
part-time, and choose one of two specializations: 1) corporate finance or 2)
investment management. A customized concentration is also available.

Where better to prepare for today’s regulatory business environment than a
school known for excellence in both ethics and accounting? The public focus on
reporting and compliance has expanded the scope and responsibilities of the
accounting industry. Today, accountants are in the middle of the action when it
comes to making decisions that affect an enterprise’s mission and strategy. The
Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver made teaching
values-based leadership a priority long before corporate scandals or
Sarbanes-Oxley. Consequently, our accounting students graduate with a solid
grounding in ethics and corporate social responsibility. Not to mention being
ready to pass the CPA exam (our students regularly place in the top 10%) and
find a rewarding career (95-100% of our Master of Accountancy graduates accept
positions within three months). At Daniels, we constantly refine the accounting
curriculum to meet the demands of the profession—and to anticipate future
trends. We carefully listen to the opinions of accountants, managers,
executives, business owners, alumni and recruiters to learn what’s new and
important today and what will be important tomorrow. Then we refine the program
to ensure it delivers the knowledge and skills industry leaders say you need. In
addition to accounting core courses and electives, students in the 50 credit
hour Master of Accountancy program take The Daniels Compass, innovative
integrated courses that give all our graduate students a foundation in business
ethics and sustainable development. At the School of Accountancy, you join a
small, motivated community of lifelong learners. With an average class size of
14 and a faculty/student ratio of 1:14, you’ll enjoy close ties with student
colleagues and faculty alike.

Marketing is one of the most visible and dynamic of business disciplines. But
savvy marketing is much more than clever slogans or multi-million dollar ad
campaigns. Marketing is serious business. That’s why the Daniels College of
Business at the University of Denver is one of the few business schools in the
country that offers an integrated Master of Science in Marketing within a
business school. The Daniels MS in Marketing brings together traditional and
innovative marketing approaches—all within the framework of professionalism and
ethical decision-making. Students choose from two integrated course of study:
integrated marketing strategy or integrated marketing communications. The MS
Marketing degree builds on the rigorous Daniels foundation of technical skills
and on The Daniels Compass – an innovative curriculum-within-a-curriculum that
integrates corporate social responsibility, leadership and sustainable
development with business knowledge. The 54 credit hour program takes as little
as 16 months to complete. Whether you see yourself crafting brand strategy,
delving deep into the nuances of consumer behavior, becoming a VP of sales or a
member of the media, an MS in Marketing from Daniels gives you the specific
skills you need.

Today the world of business is a world of exponential change. Technical business
skills count as much as ever. But, along with finance and marketing and IT, you
must now ready yourself with transferable skills that will guide you in the
future – and prepare you for jobs that don't exist today and problems that
haven't yet been defined. At the University of Denver’s Daniels College of
Business, we have created a core curriculum called The Daniels Compass that
integrates business fundamentals, innovation and corporate social responsibility
to create better professionals and better leaders. A required course sequence
for MBA students, The Daniels Compass makes leadership, sustainable development
and alignment of corporate, community and personal values part of the
curriculum. A Daniels MBA teaches you how to apply your knowledge to actual
business situations. In addition to experiential learning, students go outside
the classroom to put theory into practice in volunteer and community-building
activities. Through employment, internships and class projects for actual
business clients, you’ll spend quality time in the business world. The Daniels
MBA gives you a broad view of all business functions integrated with leadership
skills, business ethics, technical business knowledge and a global perspective.
For greater depth, choose concentrations in accounting, finance, innovation an
entrepreneurship, information technology, management, marketing, real estate and
construction management, and values-based leadership. Customized concentrations
are also available. A world-recognized MBA from the Daniels College of Business
gives you the skills and perspective to set you apart. Whether you're building
on experience or getting ready to jump into a new field, it will prepare you to
