The program has a long-standing reputation for work in the areas of audiology, language development and communicative disorders.

Description:
The University of Kansas Medical Center instituted the "Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in BiomedicalSciences" (IGPBS) in the Fall on 1997. Applicants to all basic science departments are admitted through this program and take an interdisciplinary core curriculum during year one. At the beginning of year two, students will select a mentor, enter a department and receive their degree through that department. Students admitted into the IGPBS program will receive financial assistance through our GTA program. This financial package of $20,000 direct funds to the student plus a tuition waiver equal to about $2500.

Description:
• The entry-level MOT program at KU prepares students for a career as an occupational therapist. Occupational therapists work in rehabilitation centers, public and private schools, mental health facilities, nursing homes, home health agencies, and other community settings, helping individuals with disabilities and their families to have more fulfilling lives.
• The post-professional OTD program is directed at therapists already in practice who already possess either a Bachelor's Degree or a Master of Occupational Therapy degree and who wish to upgrade their knowledge and skills to the doctoral level, to meet the increasing demands of complex practice issues.
• The research-based interdisciplinary MS/PhD in Therapeutic Science is intended for OTs and other postgraduate scholars who will be trained to generate new knowledge and to translate that knowledge into practice, to support of people with disabilities, their families, and their communities.

 

Accreditation Description:
The entry-level MOT Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). This program provides students with skills necessary to work as Occupational Therapists in a broad range of possible settings. Upon completion, MOT students will be eligible for the national OT certification examination.

O.T.D. - Occupational Therapy Doctorate (post-professional degree for practicing OTs);

Description:
The Department of Physical Therapy Education offers a 24-month, full-time professional program in physical therapy, culminating in a Master of Science degree. This accredited program begins in early June and prepares a physical therapy practitioner who will engage in life-long professional development. Learning opportunities incorporate classroom, laboratory, research, and clinical education. Students conduct and present a group research project, participate in medical center activities, and engage in seven weeks of part-time and 18 weeks of full-time clinical affiliations.

Description:
The Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Immunology is one of six basic science departments at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. The department's major focus centers on education and basic biomedical research. Individual faculty research programs fall within the general areas of molecular biology, genetics, immunology, immunochemistry, molecular virology and microbial pathogenesis. Research programs are supported by extramural research grants which also provide support for predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees and visiting scientists.

The Department of Dietetics and Nutrition in the School of Allied Health offers a Master of Science degree in Dietetics and Nutrition with a specialty in clinical nutrition. Advanced study provides for enrichment of knowledge, and a practicum leads to development of skills that may be applied to the practice specialty of clinical nutrition. Course work emphasizes the biochemical and physiological aspects of nutrition,basic sciences, medical science, and research.
