Description:
The mission of the Department of Animal Sciences is to provide meaningful teaching, research, extension and international programs with emphasis on food and fiber producing animals. As part of that mission we invite application from qualified students interested in pursuing a graduate program of instruction and research leading to the MS and Ph.D. degrees. Specializations available within the department are ruminant and non ruminant nutrition; reproductive physiology, genetics and molecular biology; environmental physiology; and production and management. Whether you desire to work in academia or industry, agriculture or medicine, the Biochemistry Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) offers you challenging training that will help you achieve your goals. The Biochemistry Department is highly ranked by the National Academy of Sciences and was cited as the top science program at MU. A graduate student in the Biochemistry Department at MU can select from many areas of specialization, due to the multidisciplinary research of our more than 30 faculty. Our program emphasizes training in research and is closely interwoven with the scholarly activities of the faculty. Our faculty comprise an integral part of a campus-wide network of research programs in molecular biology, plant biochemistry, genetics, medicine, nutrition and animal sciences.

The Soil Science and Atmospheric Science graduate programs are designed to prepare students for professional careers in research, teaching, or application of basic concepts of soil and atmospheric sciences. Candidates for the M.S. degree must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college. Appropriate undergraduate majors in preparation for graduate studies in soil and atmospheric sciences include: agronomy, atmospheric science, biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, earth science, engineering, environmental science, forestry, geology, mathematics, microbiology, physics, soil science, and statistics.
