Description:
The genetic information carried within us is the key to understanding how we function in health and what goes wrong when we suffer disease and why one patient will respond well to a certain drug while another will have debilitating side-effects. It also allows us to identify the best "molecular targets" to zero in on when designing agents to fight infecting bacteria or viruses. University of the Sciences in Philadelphia offers both the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Bioinformatics. The program is designed so that students who complete the Bachelor's degree at USP can realistically expect to complete the requirements for a Master's degree with one additional year of study. Students whose background does not include extensive preparation in Bioinformatics and/or Computer Science should anticipate a longer period of study. The requirements for the Master's degree are designed with a balanced emphasis on both basic science (biology and biochemistry), and on computing, with special focus on the special programming skills most needed in today's pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Degree(s):
M.S. (non-thesis)

Description:
Chemistry is often described as the central science, since so many other areas of science depend on it. This is one of the reasons for the excellent demand, not only in chemical, but also in pharmaceutical and many other types of industries (e.g. food preparation and safety, plastics, glass, cosmetics, natural gas and petroleum, etc.) for those with advanced degrees in chemistry. Through this graduate program you will receive an excellent background, not only in your area of specialization, but also in the general field of chemistry. For this reason our graduates are much in demand and all of our students have been employed either directly upon graduation, or shortly thereafter.

Degree(s):
M.S. (thesis); M.S. (non-thesis)
Ph.D.

Description:
Coursework and research opportunities cover health policy as it applies to the range of players in the system, including hospitals, health systems, pharmaceutical firms, government agencies, clinicians, insurance companies, managed care organizations, and entrepreneurial ventures. Since the field of health policy draws on contributions from many areas, the USP Program is interdisciplinary by nature. It requires students to analyze issues creatively by combining different approaches to policy problems. Research opportunities, similarly, cut across disciplinary lines to draw on differing kinds of expertise.
