Description:
Graduate studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at USU
include opportunities to work with faculty and other graduate students who are
involved in cutting-edge research and relevant coursework. Faculty are
interested in the development of graduate students into world-class researchers
or professionals with up-to-date knowledge of developments in their field.
Students are an important part of our success at USU, and have regular access to
faculty for mentoring in both research pursuits and career advisement. Nearly
all of our students in research-oriented degree programs have the opportunity to
work on projects in a Research Assistant position before the completion of their
degree, meaning that they receive financial support by working on the same
project tasks that are required to complete the thesis, project report, or
dissertation required for their degree. The Master of Engineering (ME) degree is
designed for working engineers, or students with a BS degree in ECE who would
like to increase their technical depth in engineering. Specializations are
available in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The Master of
Science (MS) degree in Computer Engineering and the Master of Science (MS)
degree in Electrical Engineering require substantial thesis or project work in a
specific area and prepare students for advanced study or advanced work in that
area. The MS degrees have two options of completing a thesis or preparing an
engineering project report. For a PhD degree, a student is expected to complete
at least 21 credits beyond the requirements for an MS degree, plus complete
enough credits of dissertation research to have a total of 90 credits beyond the
BS degree or 60 credits beyond the MS degree.
