Discoveries Of Archimedes
“The Discoveries of Archimedes” Archimedes truly was a man ahead of his time.
He forever changed the face of mathematics and one of his discoveries even
helped change the face of the earth. Archimedes proved the law of the lever and
invented the compound pulley. He reportedly once told King Hiero, king of
Syracuse: “Give me a place to stand on, and I will move the entire earth.” The
king challenged him to prove his boast. It is said that he moved a ship full of
passengers using a system of pulleys. Archimedes also found that every object
has a center of gravity. This is the area of an object that seems to be acted
upon by the force of gravity. Archimedes did most of his work for King Hiero. He
made one of his most important discoveries while working for the king. The king
didn’t think his knew crown the goldsmith had made for him was pure gold, that
maybe the goldsmith had added some less costly silver. Archimedes found the
solution while taking a bath. His solution was based on vol
